“Uh-oh! I accidentally hit the “Not Interested” button on TikTok. How can I undo it?” That’s a statement that’s common among my friends.
A single “Not Interested” tap hides all the content related to a trend or a sound. It’s exasperating if it was accidental. Can you undo it?
Sadly, you’ll not see a button you can tap to undo the “Not Interested” action. So you’ll have to manually look for the exact video, trend, hashtag, or sound and like or favorite the video. Doing these actions will tell TikTok that you enjoy such videos.
The “Not Interested” button changes the videos TikTok displays on the For You page. Therefore, if you did it unintentionally, you’ll need to learn how to undo the tap.
Continue reading the article. I’ll cover all the possible steps to undo the not interested tap on TikTok.
What Does the Not Interested Mean on TikTok?
There is a lot that goes into TikTok’s algorithm:
- TikTok displays videos on the For Your page based on what you like, enjoy watching, share, or favorite.
- TikTok recommends videos based on whether you complete and rewatch videos on the platform.
- TikTok also shows you content if you give the impression that you enjoy a subject matter, trend, hashtags, captioned words, or audio.
- TikTok also uses feedback to recommend videos to you.
The “Not Interested” is one of the feedback mechanisms TikTok uses to set up the For You recommendations.
When you tap the “Not Interested” button on any video on TikTok, you tell TikTok that you don’t like the content and should not see similar content. TikTok will hide all videos with similar hashtags, captioned keywords, or sounds.
Once you tap the “Not Interested” button, the TikTok video ceases to exist on your newsfeed. You’ll see a “We’ll show you fewer videos like this” prompt.
If you press the “Details” button next to the alert, TikTok will ask you to tap hashtags you wish to filter out of your newsfeed.
Can One Undo the Not Interested on TikTok?
TikTok buttons tend to be small. Therefore, it’s easy to accidentally like, favorite, or tap the “Not Interested” button on TikTok. Unlike the “Favorite” or “Like” buttons, you cannot directly undo “Not Interested.”
Luckily, there are ways to undo it. Let’s look at them individually.
Method #1: Search and Like the Exact Video
You have to know the exact title of the video to use this method. So, here is how to undo the “Not Interested” by searching and liking a video.
- Open the TikTok app on your mobile device.
- Tap the search button in the top right corner.
- Type the title of the video and hit the search button.
- On the results list, tap the video.
- Click the heart icon to like the video.
- The heart will transform from a white to a red heart.
Your likes on TikTok influence the videos TikTok recommends to you. Therefore, TikTok will let you interact with similar videos. The like button will undo the Not Interested effect on videos with similar themes, hashtags, sounds, or captioned keywords.
Method #2: Search the Content Creator
You can search for the video’s creator if you can’t remember the exact title of the video you accidentally marked “Not Interested.”
Once on their page, like some of their videos that interest you. Here is how to do it:
- Open TikTok on your mobile device.
- Tap the search button in the top right corner.
- Type the creator’s username in the search box.
- Tap the creator’s username in the search results to access their profile page.
- Watch and like a few videos on that page. If you locate the video, you accidentally marked “Not Interested,” make sure to like it.
Don’t spam the creator’s accounts with lots of likes. Take your time, watch to completion and rewatch a few videos on the creator’s page to show TikTok that you like the creator’s videos.
Doing this will reduce the impact you might have created by unintentionally clicking the Not Interested button.
Method #3: Watch and Like Videos with Similar Subject Matter
If you can’t recall the creator or the exact video, you can always search and watch videos with similar content. TikTok will add such videos to your For You page if you interact with more of these videos.
Also, watch similar videos on the For You page. Don’t skip them, and you can reverse the effect created by the “Not Interested” button.
A Recap
The “Not Interested” button tells TikTok that you don’t like a particular kind of content on TikTok. Once you tap the button, TikTok will gradually stop recommending such videos to you.
You can undo the effect created by the feature if done accidentally. You can look for the video and hit the heart button. You can also visit the creator’s profile and like some of their videos.
Also, look for similar videos and watch them. If they appear on the For You page, don’t skip them. Watch and like the videos.
